In 2010, I felt the intrinsic fear of losing my photos. That's when Piwigo came into my life, never to leave again. Today, I manage over 50,000 photos, and despite the sheer number, the gallery remains fluid and the many themes enhance the interface to suit your tastes. The other reason I love Piwigo is the ability to customize who sees each folder. I have 200 users who can see all the photos of all the evenings we've spent together. When we had to change the university's existing photo library solution in a hurry, Piwigo seemed a good compromise. We needed a solution that was quick and easy to set up, enabling us to technically manage a large image database with indexing, metadata management and search capabilities akin to an EDM or DAM solution, a real publishing and sharing interface with access rights management, operational interfacing with the school's information system and seamless integration into my Lightroom workflow. After two years, Piwigo has given us a great deal of satisfaction, far beyond the transitional solution we expected. The flexibility provided by the customization and plug-in system and the open source development mode make it a scalable, adaptable and robust solution, capable of elegantly covering the essentials.

It's a contributive inventory where geolocation, description and comments are as important as the image. Piwigo is a complete CMS that goes far beyond a simple online album: it's thanks to its collaborative mode that Piwigo made possible our beautiful exhibition and the writing of the associated book. Fine-tuned rights management makes behind-the-scenes work practical, efficient and discreet. Our Piwigo is the 4th component of our web communication, along with the Carnets, the forum and a curation tool. The images in the album can already be used on the forum, and soon in the Carnets, and the style of the different sites has been easily standardized, so that readers have the impression of staying in the land of knowledge, while moving from one site to another. I discovered Piwigo quite a few years ago for personal local use. I then installed it at a hosting company where I made the photos I took at local events available to my commune. The French Swimming Federation has a huge collection of photos and videos. In discussion with our photographer, who couldn't find a satisfactory solution and thought it was a shame that this memory wasn't being used for our publications, I suggested that he give Piwigo a try. After a few adjustments and plug-in installations, it turned out to be a stable, customizable and crash-proof solution. Our employees now have a photo library worthy of the name.

So I started looking for a robust solution: 3,000 albums and 150,000 high-resolution photos. My website is an important platform, as it allows me to make a backup of my work, to have a gallery for each customer, and each customer has a 10-year history and must be able to identify himself and download his old reports. After a long search, I came across Piwigo, which met all my expectations. So I created a test gallery and realized that there was even a module that allowed me to take over my old Gallery2 website. It's been almost a year since the migration. The site is fast and handles the mass of information well. The visual customization allowed me to get exactly what I wanted. Importantly, with open-source software, the site and community forum are very active and responsive to questions and problem-solving. In den letzten Jahren habe ich öfter zwischen Zenphoto, Worpdress und Pwigo gewechselt. Nachdem ich die Systeme einige Zeit genutzt habe, bin ich immer wieder zu Piwigo zurück gekehrt. Hier sind die Gründe warum: wenn es um Geschwindigkeit geht – insbesondere bei grossen Bildmengen – fühlt sich Piwigo am schnellsten an. Piwigo wird aktiv weiter entwickelt und hat eine sehr hilfsbereite Community. Das System aktuell zu halten ist sehr einfach – da tun sich andere deutlich schwerer. Am Ende des Tages spart der minimale Wartungsaufwand deutlich Zeit. Durch das Local Files Editor Plugin lässt sich Piwigo sehr fein justieren. Letztendlich bietet Piwigo alle Features die ich mir für eine Galerie wünsche – meiner Meinung nach wird hier deutlich mehr geboten als es andere (auch kommerzielle) Systeme tun. Wer einmal die Features von gängigen Wordpress Galerie Plugins mit denen von Piwigo vergleicht, weiss was ich meine. Wer ein äusserst schnelles und stabiles System für seine Galerie sucht, dem kann ich Piwigo wärmstens ans Herz legen.

I am a photography enthusiast, sharing lots of free stock photos and photos from hiking trips in New Zealand. I have close to 3,500 images in my Piwigo photo gallery, and all is running very smooth. I discovered Piwigo in 2015. I needed to replace a discontinued photo gallery with something new and Piwigo ticked all the boxes for me. I never looked back - setup was fairly straightforward and maintenance is effortless. No fuss, things just work. And when something breaks (I had a broken version update once) then I received immediate help on community forums and the issue was resolved within a few hours. Frankly, that's faster than paid-for commercial support with most vendors I know of. One important factor why I picked Piwigo over other available options is the community spirit. I prefer supporting software that is available for everyone to use in any way they like. This is profoundly different from vendor lock-in and EULAs full of small print, that you find with proprietary products.

This Piwigo site was created by a PhD student, who shares her research on St James Cemetery in Liverpool.

After using many so called photography specific web hosts over the years, I could never find one with software that worked how I wanted it, always how they wanted it. Then I chanced on Piwigo one day, and created our family website of 4,000 photos. Next I created my own Piwigo website, with my 50 years of photographs in mind. What a joy! Heute erfasse ich Fotos direkt in Piwigo, sobald ich sie kaufe, mit allen Informationen zum jeweiligen Projekt, und wir teilen die Mediathek mit den Grafikerinnen und Grafikern. Dieses Mal haben wir keine Zeit verloren und den Bildteil unserer neuen Broschüre wirklich gut umgesetzt.

If you need fine control over presentation, have large storage requirements, or need special features like payments or copyright handling (in plug-ins), there is no alternative to this software. My own gallery has grown to 130 albums, and 10GB in JPEGs, with no performance or technical issues. This is great software.

I like to publish my photos and I started 2013 using koken. koken is no longer maintained, I made my change to Piwigo in 2020 as it offers a lot of possibilities and a good support based on the community behind. Piwigo's history was enough reason to expect a system with ongoing maintenance and development different to koken. A system which is open and free is in my view a choice which can last for a long time.

Ich nutze Piwigo, um die Fotoberichte meiner Leistungen mit meinen Kunden zu teilen, über ein Plugin, das die Freigabe von Alben ermöglicht, ohne sie öffentlich zu machen. Außerdem nutze ich Piwigo, um Serviceanfragen mit jedem meiner Partner zu teilen, indem ich die sie betreffenden Fotos in einem eigenen Album isoliere und dieses mit den jeweiligen Partnern teile. Und schließlich ermöglicht mir Piwigo, im Team zu arbeiten: Die Fotos, die ich aufnehme, werden organisiert und anschließend von meiner Kollegin mit unseren Kunden geteilt, die so parallel zu meinen häufigen Ergänzungen arbeiten kann. Auch die Android-App ist sehr nützlich. Kurz gesagt: Piwigo ist genau die Online-Fotogalerie, die ich gebraucht habe! Gut gemacht!

I discovered this photo presentation application more than 3 years ago while preparing my new website hosted by Infomaniak in Geneva, Switzerland: Piwigo was proposed as an expert and easy-to-use application for distributing photo albums all over the place. I'm Swiss, I live in Switzerland and I've been an amateur photographer since I was a teenager. I mainly take photos when I'm travelling around the world, particularly in Europe in recent years, since I'm retired and I travel with a relatively compact and very comfortable motorhome. That's why I've called my site 'Images de Voyages': they're listed by year and by place visited. I use Piwigo both as a public gallery for my travel photos and as a means of archiving the wealth of images I produce every year (perhaps too many according to some!?!). Piwigo offers both a means of getting an immediate and complete view of a photographer's experience and a fantastic opportunity to share with the whole world (?) the emotions I feel when I take a photo. Piwigo is a marvellous tool, with no limits except perhaps a few technical faults, but all this can be improved thanks to the sharing on the user forum and the wisdom of the Piwigo team.

Unser Sportverein nutzt Piwigo seit Ende 2014 und wir sind sehr zufrieden damit. Wir haben damit eine andere Software abgelöst, die viel umständlicher zu bedienen war. Unser Fotoarchiv ist ein unverzichtbarer Bestandteil unserer unseres Vereinslebens geworden, da hierüber die Bilder von sportlichen Events den Mitgliedern zur Verfügung gestellt werden können. Besonders wichtig ist dabei, dass wir über Gruppen die Berechtigung und damit den Zugriff auf die Fotos sehr gut regulieren können und die verschiedenen Mitglieder nur Zugriff auf Events bekommen, für die sie auch die Berechtigung haben. Durch Einteilung in verschieden Alben ist das super einfach zu handhaben. Das System ist immer verfügbar, nach kurzer Einarbeitung leicht zu bedienen, an vielen Stellen selbsterklärend. Zum Service muss ich sagen, dass in der Vergangenheit fast alle Probleme und Anfragen schnell und unkompliziert gelöst wurden. Ich empfehle Piwigo sehr gern weiter.
